Main objective of the Livestock and Dairy Development Department (Extension), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is to alleviate poverty by improving the socio-economic condition of farmers through enhancing the productivity of their livestock in terms of milk, meat and other livestock products/by products

Livestock contribute to the livelihood of rural poor by providing a small but steady stream of food and income, improving farm productivity, increasing assets and mitigating risks.

The livestock sector of our province has great potential of making contribution to poverty alleviation but this potential is still untapped. The major constraint in making meaningful efforts for enhancing per animal productivity are the farmer’s shyness to adopt improved farm practices and the investors’ reluctance to invest in the sector; both mainly lack of access to the required information.

Keeping in view the above, the Livestock and Dairy Development Department (Extension) has established Information Cell in the provincial headquarters of the department for efficient dissemination of the needed information to all stakeholders. Launching of the official website of the department is one of the mandates of the cell, which the team has achieved successfully. I congratulate them on accomplishing the task in efficient manner. It is  hoped that the information once put on the website shall contribute in bringing about desirable changes in the knowledge , attitude and skills of the livestock stakeholders across  the board, and the site will be a rich source of information for the livestock owners, livestock service providers, input suppliers and policy makers.

Best wishes

Welcome to Directorate of Livestock and Dairy Development Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The livestock sector occupies a unique position in the national and provincial agenda of economic development of the present government. The sector provides a net source of foreign earnings. Historically livestock has been the subsistence sector dominated by small holders to meet their needs of milk, food security and daily cash income. Therefore, livestock is considered a more secure source of income for the small farmers and landless poor and is a source of employment generation at the rural level. It also helps to reduce income variability, especially in cases of crop failure due to a variety of causes. Livestock is central to the livelihood of the rural poor in the province and can play an important role in poverty alleviation. It can uplift the socioeconomic condition of province rural masses.
